Rancho 4×2 Lift

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Anyone had any experiences in the new Rancho 4" 4×2 lift for the Dodge
Ram?
Please spare me the flaming because it is 2wd. It’s a free company truck
that I am trying to do my best with.

Getting through deep snow. best vehicle.

Friday, July 30th, 2010

What’s the best kind of vehicle to get through deep snow?  I live in
Wisconsin and mainly drive around farms.  I don’t do the rock and hill
thing, just deep snow.  Sometimes, like this year, we have 2 feet or
over back in the woods.  This weekend I tried retrieving some firewood
with my dad’s 1998 Chevy Silverado extended cab.  He’s got the 255
horse v-8, a cap which gives more weight in the rear, and a limited
slip rear differential. The tires are kind of between all-seasons and
snow tires.  medium aggressive tires I guess.  We had it in 4-lo with
over 600 pounds of guys sitting in the truck.  We did OK in 12 to 18
inches of powder but it got to 2 feet or more way back in the woods and
then we were stopped.

I’ve always wondered whether full-size trucks are better than smaller
SUVs that have more advanced differentials like the jeep grand cherokee
or does the height of the full size truck overcome that in snow?  I’ve
also heard from older farmers that older trucks from the 80′s had more
ground clearance and did much better in the snow.

Dodge WC51 brake tubing

Friday, July 30th, 2010

A Happy New Year to all fourwheelers around the globe!

I am in terrible need of the flexible brake hoses for a Dodge WC51,
build somewhere in the late 40´s. The truck was used in the austrian
army until a friend of mine obtained it and now plans to circle the old
globe in it (no joke, some of us austrians are pretty crazy people).
Has anyone an idea as to where they are still sold?

Thanks
Bernhard

Need Tranny Advice bad (911!!!)

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Merry Christmas…

I’ve got a 97′ Blazer S-10, auto-tran, with 75K on it.  I was doing 60 on
the higway, went to accelerate, and got nothing but grinding.  Slowed down
and pulled of the highway, and sat there for a bit.  Started up again and
the truck wouldn’t shift from 1st to 2nd without me letting off the gas (It
may have been in limp mode, I don’t know).  Anyway, I made it home and
checked the fluid.  It was full, but has some "flecks" in it.  PLUS (as a
bonus)  I don’t have Reverse anymore.  It doesn’t engage at all, just sits
there.

So to sum up:   Heard a loud grinding while accelerating.  No Reverse.
Won’t shift to second without letting off the gas.  Fluid level is fine and
not dark/dirty but has flecks in it.  Other than that it’s fine.  (HA!)

I know I have to get it fixed, so my question is this:
Am I looking at a total tranny replacement or is this a valve/pump/linkage
issue???

Any advice would help before I go to the mechanics. (Tomorrow)

Thanks,

Ron Beck
