Help!! Automatic Locking hubs stuck on Blazer.

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Hey,

I have a 84 Blazer (auto) with Auto locking hubs (stock) and after
putting it in 4 high yesterday they won’t disengage now, even after
reversing after shifting back into 2 high. I tried a few differnent
combos of gears and neutral but nothing is working…when I drive in 2
wheel the transfer case is making a grinding noise I am assuming because
the hubs are driving the transfer case out of gear (4×4). Any ideas
would be great. Thanks…. please respond to my email as well as here. I
Appreciate it.

How ’bout both?   Take ‘em offroad, and leave ‘em there!!  Cliffs are
your friends.

Seriously, my sister and bro-in-law had a mid ’90s explorer and my aunt
has a mid 80s Bronco II, so I have experience with both.   Neither would
meet my offroad needs well.   For now I’ll stick with my Jeep.  It does a
lot of things well.  The other alternative would be a small truck with an
extra cab; it would do other things pretty well.   The two you mention
just don’t fit any role I’d want very well.

Re: NP 205 question

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Steve,

A good start would be the casting number
off the case (5-digit). If this TC is originally
from a married set-up the casting will tell you
if it’s from a Ford, Mopar or Chevy. Some of the
castings were not very common. I think Ford
has about 4-5 different castings over the years.
I do recal Dodge having a few weird set-ups
with the TC angled the other way but this was
a divorced set-up.

I used to have all the books that showed these
until they were stolen.

Re: Landrover Defender 2.5TD Fuel Cooler

Friday, May 28th, 2010

I doubt anyone from this group can help you. In the US, Landrovers are
considered to be overpriced, unreliable and generally undesirable for
serious off road use. They are marketed to upscale white shirts who buy
them for their perceived status. No diesel engines are offered here;
only the small, under powered Buick derived V8 is for sale here.

Chains on AWD ?

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

I have a ’98 Outback AWD and the user’s manual says that when you put chains
on, you should put them only on the front wheels. I don’t understand why. I
would assume that you need them on all 4 wheels and that if you put them
only on 2 wheels then the power gets transmitted mostly to the back wheels
(least resistance in the differential).
Why is that ?
