HELP! Trouble towing

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I have a 1985 Bronco XLT with 351W.  It has plenty of power to pull
anything I need to but it is very hard to handle.  The trailer will whip
all over the place and the whole setup is very unstable.

My truck weighs almost 5000lbs so I would think it should be stable as a
rock.  I am positive the problem is not the trailer because I have pulled
it many times with other vehicles and had no problems.  I generally tow a
small utility trailer, a 20′ flatbed and 18′ boat.  The flatbed and the
boat are where I can feel it the most.

What might cause this on my Bronco?  Sway bars? Shocks? Steering?

If anyone has any information that may help me out I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks

URGENT: Info on 1959 Kaiser Jeep

Monday, April 19th, 2010

There is a gov’t auction near me tomorrow and amoung the junk
is a 1959 Kaiser Jeep.  This thing has been used as a "follow me"
vehicle at an airport for many years, it’s got a hard top and
mostly gutted inside.  It doesn’t run and has a fair amount
of misc. rust (although this is California so it may only be
superficial).  It has had a few paint jobs and is mostly in poor
condition, clearly being a beater arount the airport for 30 yrs.
Odometer reads 21K miles, no way to verify that number.

What (if anything) is it worth bidding on?
Anything special about 1959 Kaiser built (good or bad)?

I’m an average replace waterpumps but don’t rebuild motors
skill level.  Is this over my head?

Any help (prior to Friday, July 14 at 9am) greatly appreciatted.

VW Things

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I’ve just purchased a VW Thing in need of some serious restoration.  From
my bit of research, I understand from the 9-12" underbody clearance
and heavy-duty tranny and suspension on these vehicles that they make
excellent off-road vehicles.  The resto I have in mind will not be
stock, but rather trick/custom, and I’m looking for ideas from off-roaders
about modifications to make to this car.

All help appreciated….

Thanks,

1996 Wrangler (UL?)

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I’ve been seeing some chatter about the 1996 Wrangler and recently
some speculation about the 1997 Wrangler.  Many people have asked
for pics of it, but I myself haven’t seen them.  I was just thinking
about the possible reasoning behind the supposed drastic change in
the Wrangler (i.e. now looks like a Samurai).  I know the Jeep has
evolved over the years from trhe Willys army jeep to the present day
Wrangler, but it still hasn’t veered that far from the original look.
It seems to be a tremendously popular vehicle (it was very difficult for
me to get mine, used ones were very hard to get and dealers never had them
on the lots.  I looked in three states at once).  So why would Chrysler
do a drastic change?  Maybe it’s similar to the Coke/New Coke/ Classic Coke
switcheroo.  Just a thought….

Removing lower doors from Wrangler

Friday, April 16th, 2010

If I were to remove the lower doors from my Wranger the pin that toggles
the interior lights would always remain on.  Does anyone have a quick
solution to this besides removing the fuse?
Thanks.

4×4 light will not turn off

Friday, April 16th, 2010

I bought a ’90 Wranger in May and took it off road for the first
time last weekend.  Ever since going off road the 4×4 light on the dash
will not turn off.  I am certain it is 2wd but light still remains on.
Has anyone every heard of this?
Thanks.

Bovine Pubs ?

Friday, April 16th, 2010

I know, just mount the Bull bars on pedestrians…

Doesnt a 4×4, with its larger tires and higher ground clearance, reduce
the damage done to people in accidents were they are run completely over?
