Driving up hill

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

If you’re driving up a hill (off road), and it’s fairly
rutted, should the tactic be 1) ride in the ruts, assuming you’ve
got the clearance, 2) ride on the rises on the edge and between
the ruts, 3) something else?
Does someone have a "how to drive off road" FAQ or web
page?  Might be interesting to read.

350 in my Cherokee…Help?

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

My current project is putting a Chevy 350 in my Jeep Cherokee, which I recently
blew the stock 2.8L engine.  This is a very custom job because it doesn’t seem
that that many people have done this, if any.  Has anyone either done this or h
eard of it being done?  My current problem is motor/body mounts for the 350.  I
deas or contacts or companies that make these or could give me ideas on how to
would be GREAT. Thanks, Nate.

Manual Transmission Problems C/K1500

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I have a 93′ Chevy 4X4, 350 with the 5 speed manual transmission.  From
the time the truck was new, the transmission has been noisy and clanky.
I’ve braught it in for service many times and have been told it’s normal.
Anybody else have any experience with this junky transmission?

RE: Cherokee paint job

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The dealer here paid 75% to have the horizontal surfaces repainted.  I was told
that the "clear coat" is peeling causing the ugliness.  The vertical surfaces
weren’t in bad shape at the time, but now they are starting to go.

What is the brand of this pager? I have been looking for such a device
in the Netherlands, but I found only one brand, the Keystone CA-06.
Since its radiosystem is also not officially approved up here, I would like
to hear if there are more types in the USA (I guess this Keystone is also
produced in the USA?).

FJ-40 efi?

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I once read an article in a mag which fetured a late ’70′s tlc fj40 with efi.
They never listed any sources for the system. Nor have I ever seen
anything advertised in spectre or man-a-fre.
Would anyone know of a compatiable efi sys for a tlc.
Is Holly projection compatable?

thanks

1995 Explorer Limited Automatic Ride Control

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I am conducting a poll for 1995 Explorer Limited 4×4 owners and those
interested in the Automatic Ride Control system. There are about 19,000
of you out there and I suspect that some of you know about the Automatic
Ride Control system we put on the new Explorer. Let me know what you
think of the system, whether or not the dealer informed you of the
system, and what you see as the advantages or disadvantages of it.

The system provides automatic control of shock damping (soft or firm),
load leveling, and regulates vehicle height.  The Limited 4×4 rests about
an inch lower than an Eddie Bauer or XLT for better step-in height and
uses leaf springs that are about 20% softer than those on non-Limited
4×4 Explorers.  Air shocks are used at each corner of the vehicle.  When
you select Auto 4WD the vehicle lifts an inch.  In 4 LOW it lifts two
inches and the shocks are set full time firm.  Lifting the vehicle
increases the air pressure in the air shocks and makes them less
compressible, causing an overall increase of about 60% in the spring
rate.

So, you’ve got a softer highway ride with body motion control, and ground
clearence enhancement for off-road use.

I’d like to know, from Explorer owners, what you think of the system.
For those that don’t own an Explorer, let me know what you think also.
How much would you pay for the system (in retail price terms)?

Please e-mail me at the address below with your responses.

buying another 4×4 this weekend

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I have read about soggy brake pedals on the Chevy’s Yukon/ and little Blazer,  Ford explorer’s  great road handling but unhappiness when it is on the back trails,  about the Grand Cherokee’s great offroad handling and it’s softness at 60 mph on the highway, I’m confused.  Maybe I just read too much.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THEY THINK THE BEST SUV WOULD BE FOR A PERSON WHO HAS A FAMILY, NEEDS ROOM FOR AT LEAST 4 AND A BABY CAR SEAT, AND HAS AIRBAGS, PROTECTS HUMAN CARGO IN A CRASH, ROOMY, GOOD TOWING CAPACITY, OF COURSE ENOUGH HORSEPOWER, AND THAT YOU CAN TAKE ON SOME LIGHT OFFROADING.

ALSO, WHAT WOULD YOU PAY FOR AN ’89 P/U, TOY, 4X4, 4CYL, 70K MILES, TOOL BOX, BED LINER, 32" INCH TIRES AND RIMS, STOCK RIMS AND TIRES, CLOTH INTERIOR, 5 SPEED.  NEW CLUTH, NEW FRONT AND REAR SEALS, NEW BRAKES SHOES, NEW PLUGS.  IF I SELL I MAY ASK FOR       5.5K.

thanks in advance.
