Your thoughts on some pickups

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I’ll be graduating soon, and if I become employed at a real job, I will
probably buy or lease a new truck. I’m looking at the Dodge Ram 1500,
maybe 2500, club cab on both, 4×4 is preferable. Also interested in GMC
1500 Z-71 package, club cab and flare sides(or Chevy, if they make
one,). I have also looked at Ford Ranger and Dodge Dakota. I’d be
interested in any experiences, good or bad, that you have had with
recent models of these trucks. Thanks in advance!

'91 Ford Explorer Cooling System Questions

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Hi all….. I have several questions on my ’91 Explorer.  First, I know I have
to replace the thermostat AGAIN.  It’s been replaced twice before by  the
dealer under warranty using "factory" parts.  Question is, what brand of
thermostat is most reliable?  I don’t feel like replacing it every 30,000
miles.

Second, the radiator have a small leak where the plastic side tank mates to
the core.  It’s a very slight leak but I would like to repair it.  Question
is, can it be repaired by a radiator shop or must the radiator be replaced?

Any Explorer owners out there that might be able to offer an opinion from
personal experience please respond.  Thanks in advance……

Nissan 4×4 towing travel trailer!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Thought you all would enjoy what I saw today heading west bound on I-80.
Silver 1984 Nissan 4×4 towing a fairly large 22 footer or more Prowler
tandem travel trailer.

I picked up behind this rig about 30 miles west of Salt Lake.  Stayed
with him all the way to Elko.  He averaged 60-65 the whole way.

Never did I see any unsafe movement of the trailer.  It towed nicely
behind the mini truck.  I pulled in behind him at a rest area to get a
better look at this.

Turns out the guy has over 89K on the truck and trailer. He has it nicely
prepared.  All the sway equipment and the right hitch.

Said he never gets below 15mpg, usually averages 17.  Said in 5 years has
never been a hill or grade that he could not pull in 3rd at 45mph.

I was impressed!  Consider I have 40 tons an 500 hp, this little four
banger proves that you don’t need a V-8 to get a job done!

Last I saw of this rig was west bound on Donner Pass heading for the Bay
Area.

Rims for Toyota 4×4

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Does any one have the stock 15x7JJ aluminum rims that came on
the SR5 Toyota P/U or 4Runners for sale?  Dealerships around
me stated extreme prices for these rims.

Thanks in advance.

 Hey guys,
I have a 1994 Mazda B-series pickup truck and would like to put a
body-lift on it.  I want to know if there are any modifications to be made to
the lines or linkages?  Also, the bumpers are mounted to the frame.  What is
the best way to raise them along with the body?  Any information on 94′ to 96′
Mazda or 93′ Ford Rangers will be appreciated!

94-95 Mazda Truck Lift?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Please Help,
     I own a 94′ Mazda B-series pick-up truck and would like to install a 2 or
3 inch body lift.  Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to go about
doing this?  The bumpers on bolted to the frame, I’m not sure how to raise them
with the body.  Also, are there any modifications to be made to the lines or
linkages?  Thanks for any help.  By the way, if you have any info on modifying
a 94′to 95′ Mazda or 93′ Ford Ranger please pass it along!
                            Thanks John,

Thinking about a Pathfinder….

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I am thinking about purchasing a ’94 or ’95 Nissan Pathfinder.  I wouldn’t mind
some feedback about this car on comparison of the other Sport Utils. What is the
maintenance record on these trucks?  I would be going the route of a 6 yr lease
probably.  Have to keep the payments low.  What is the price difference between
a New Pathfinder and a New Grand Cherokee? I assume the Grand Cherokee is
better.  And information and/or opinoins related to these subjects would be
greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance,

A friend of mine has one on his Cummins 5.9L and it works well.  When
you turn the ignition, a time runs the pre-oiler for about 2 minutes
then he cranks the engine.  He has also configured it to run about 2
minutes when he turns the engine off to help cool the turbo-charger.

I will warn you that, at least his pre-oiler anyway, is LOUD.

In his case, there is a collar that fits between the oil filter
element and it’s mount with a hoses leading to it as well as a line
that comes from the drain.  This runs to the pump, etc….  Looks like
a fairly simple lashup.
