The gentleman that talk of Red Line is correct. The suggested drain time for Red Line is 15-18 thousand miles. The oil is 100%
synthetic and is made of more sophisticated stocks than Mobile 1 and other equivalents. Red Line recommends changing filters
half way between drains, since dirt and other contaminants are the main culprits with synthetic oils.

It is probably not a good idea to use synthetics on older motors since it is so expensive and will burn away like dollar bills in a fire.
Red Line started out as a racers only oil that was later used in heavy industrial equipment that imposed both high heat and
high loads on oils. Synthetics are also recommended for turbos because of the excessive levels of heat that they create.
Red Line also boasts that their oil sticks to parts more than patroleum oils, which means cold starts are less damaging since
a film of oil is always coating the parts. Patrolium oil tend to drain off the parts more, thus causing more initial wear at startup.

If you want more info on Red Line, send me a message I’ve got brochures, and sell the stuff for $7.75 a quart (retail is around 10
bucks now that the price went up). If you choose synthetic, go with Red Line………….. Scott

Mitsubishi Montero Help!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Okay, What’s the word on newer Mitsubishi Montero’s? 1992 or 1993 models. I
want to replace my wife’s ’84 Montero and she want’s another Mitsubishi. But
we can’t afford a new one so I figure I’ll go for a late model "pre-owned"
vehicle.  How are they? Are there any other SUV’s with that amount of cab
space that I should consider? Any thing I should know about the Montero’s. Our
’84 has been very faithfull but it’s getting very old and we’ve outgrown it’s
limited cab area.

Any recommendations are welcome.  E-mail if possible.Thanks.

Replace windshield rubber trim around window and at base of windshield.

Oh yes, check your right front speaker for water damage while you are at it.

HELP! Ford I6 Oil Pressure…

Monday, September 28th, 2009

 I own a 1987 F-150 with the I6 engine.  It has 85,000 miles on it and I’v
noticed that the oil pressure fluctuates way too much!  Recently this weekend, the pressure has been so low that the "engine" light comes on and the oil
pressure gauge is in the red.  I replaced the sender to make sure it wasn’t thatbut, still no luck.  I heard that to drop the oil pan to inspect/replace the
pump and lower bearings, the engine has to be yanked out because I have a
4×4.  Apparently, there is enough room in 4×2′s to do the job.  I certainly
do not like the sounds of this!  Also, is it necessary to replace the top
bearings, too?  Hell, if they have to be replaced, the tranny is going to
have to come down, and all the rods disconnected.  At this point, half my
truck will be taken apart!  Also, is it wise to turn the crank while it’s
out?
I’d appreciate any insight to this problem, especially from people
who have actually done a similar job to a similar engine.  I was told by
a Ford dealer that this could cost $800-$1000 to do.  I love working on my
truck, and I’v never been afraid to do a BIG job, but yankin’ motors is
just too much for me.  I don’t even like the idea of anyone yankin’ the
motor out, never mind myself.  Basically, if this job can be completed
without removing the motor, I will probably do it myself.

Thanks,
Greg A.

What torque converter for 305 tho400

Monday, September 28th, 2009

What kind of torque converter should I use in a 305 turbo 400 combination on my full size
blazer 4×4.  I’m just curious if their is any advantages to buying after market converters for
4×4 applications, and what stall speed I should go with??????
